For those of you who wonder about all the debate about trade protectionism in our country, here is an excellent, quick article from the economist discussing how Asia is reciprocating:
You had to know, that when calls for “buy American” were considered during the bailout negotiations, and some were foolishly calling for protectionism, that other countries were paying attention. Imagine if foreign countries stopped consuming our goods and services – and imagine a protectionism war – who would win? The near-sightedness of our elected officials is astonishing. The fact that protectionist language almost made it to the final bill, is scary – the word is out to foreigners and they are reacting appropriately.
