In my research I came upon this story linking “out of body experiences” in emergency room patients with the fact that oxygen-enriched blood may still be getting to the patient’s brain even if the heart is not pumping – which would allow the patient to actually be somewhat conscious and “see” what’s going on around even if the attending doctors and nurses think the patient is unconscious or even “dead.”  See the story here:
