The Pickins Plan

T. Boone Pickens is going out on his own to try to influence the national debate on our use of and dependence on foreign oil:

www.pickensplan.com

Here is a video of him discussing his plan:

Video

It’s great to see some positive ACTION! He’s right – if we can mix our knowledge and ingenuity in wind, solar, and use our abundant supply of natural gas, we can work away from foreign oil. Let’s all get on this to make it happen. No long studies, no ridiculous endless committee meetings – let’s just DO IT – Boone Pickens I think, is doing something for the benefit of the great country he loves so much. Remember, he’s 80 years old and a billionaire – he doesn’t need any more money. Listen to him. And by the way, I’m sure Marc Faber, Jim Rogers, and the other wise men I listen to would agree with this.

Editor’s addition – 7.29.08 – this seems interesting as one reader left this website on a comment – wiltscleanenergy.com – any thoughts?

I live in the US Virgin Islands and feel that the government should subsidize solar and wind power refitings for residential as well as commercial buildings

  • their are several systems in existence from ww2,the use of freon makes these system work indefenitly, using nwxt to no fuel.please email me for further info on systems.

  • systems from ww2,using freon as a re-usible fuel are in existence.please email me.

Mr. Pickens I am a certified professional building analyst and I have been pushing sustainable energy to all my local politicians and to no prevail. We have one of the best resources avalable in our region which is Lake Erie for wind. Our congressmen and state senators don’t want to hear it. How can we get thru to these people that it can and will work? I also am trying to get solar working in Pa. My small company called Home Performance Testing Systems LLC. performes enrgy audits on existing homes to reduce energy cost and I do Hers Ratings for new construction to qualify home for energy star. I built the first energy star qualified home that also qualified for Federal tax credits in Northwestern Pa. We are currently building our second home now. I would love to talk with you about this. I can be reached at 814-763-3654 or 814-720-4675 Thank You Mark Schlosser

I lived through the Arab oil embargo of the 70’s and find it hard to believe that after our nation received such a large “Wake Up Call” that we have thus far failed to break the chains of foreign oil.

President John Kennedy committed to putting a man on the moon in ten years. His dream, leadership and our nation’s determination achieved that goal.

I watched the Pickins Plan and I don’t know if it will work or not. What I do know is that we can’t afford not to try it……..

  • great comments all – I wrote a post a little while back (3/25/08 – http://chrisgrande.com/2008/03/25/make-sure-you-watch-boone-pickins/)
bemoaning the fact that America has some really smart successful people, who are willing to help the country with their ideas but who never get asked to come before Congress for their advice.

Now one of these great minds is taking his ideas TO THEM – GOOD!

I am a retired commodore of a major oil company.
These recent events show what stupidity and ignorance is leading the country.

We need to ascertain a conservative estimate of all potential oil in our territory,

Remove the inventory tax on oil storage facilities to allow purchase of products at lowest price for future use.

Allow storage facilities to be built.

Allow refinery upgrades to be made quickly.

Allow new refinery capacity to be built with at least a capacity of 125% of present consumption.

This is something I fully believe in – renewable energy that doesn’t hurt the enviornment. Its time is long overdue!
Personally I lost my job in the auto industry back in 1974 due to the oil crisis. We as a nation haven’t learned a dam thing. Our leaders have favored the few – meaning big business and some very rich folks – at the expense of the many – meaning you and me, and the good of our nation as a whole.
Just think what the very well off could accomplish with their determination and financial resources. T. Boone Pickins I hope is the first of many more bright business minds to help tackle this critical problem.
    We need Bill Gates onboard.

  • again,

thanks all for commenting…this will take time, as all slow moving ships do, but it will happen…

During ww 2, They went from a thought or a concept and within 4 years Fat boy and Minuteman were droped on Japan. If the Government and the enviomentalists would get out of the way private industry I think would have fresh oil within two years

  • Jay Ockunzzi

How can I invest in this project?

  • Allen Baxter

We have elected a derelict congress and we’re paying $700Billion a year to foreign countries for oil…..all because they pander to special interests for filling their campaign chest for their re-election and the nation be damned!

Where is their energy plan? Up in the same location as their heads.

We deserve better government, and we better sweep the slate clean in November………………

  • We have (7) kids & (1) on the way. We have enough things going on in our lives – let alone the worry of rising fuel cost. Living in the lower income bracket I don’t know how anyone can look at this plan and not think it’s a good thing! I am a Vet. from the Desert Storm era and I am in the National Guard now! I will probably end up going over to Iraq before it’s over. They say we’re fighting this war to stop terrorism and free Iraq. I think we’re fighting for OIL all over again! If we can all get onboard now it will benifit us and our children in the future – think about it America! – Dave Atkinson – WV

If we have the determination, we can solve the problem. Flood the market with crude oil, see the results. For example, bring one or two million barrel of crude a day for a month or so from the U.S. Reserve.see the results.

I am so sick of this country letting the Paranoid

Environmentalist!!! Run an iron fist over the Us,

Government. It is very disgusting. To say the least.

And it takes no time to set up one of these Wind-

Power Farms. Six Mos, is what I understand. So

What are we waiting for? Just saw one on Fox News

this AM, which is up and running in Kansas.

But of course the Environmental Freaks !! are saying

it’s ugly,so big deal!! It will solve our Problems

    for our most urgent needs.

So I am 100% behind Mr Pickins and his Idea.So

what are we waiting for? Somebody needs to get the Environmentalist out of the picture. They are all

about Money. And in no way care about anyone except

what they want, and that is to make life as

difficult for the average American. And I am sick

to death of them and all that they stand for.

So lets get the Wind Power going,NOW!!!!!!! not

    next YR!!!!

    Also,
I have another invention called a “Scission Reactor,” it uses high Temperatire and Carbon to “clean & neutralize” all the offgasses like SO & NO, and makes the the air clean.

My Technologies can help the people of our country, as well as other countries,
    “BUT”
I have lost all the money I can afford, trying to show people how to get more oil & gas from mariginal oil & gas wells.
Everytime the independent oil people get started the price of oil & gas goes to nothing as you know. There needs to be a bottom price that you can sell oil in the United States because the oil producing countries have been droping the bottom out of the price of oil and bankrupting the independents here in the U.S.
The United States has 600,000 wells already with proven oil & Gas reserves in place but not producing.
I don’t know how to say this any other way…but our Government (all the politicians don’t help anyone but themselves.
Unless people like you come forward and help, this country is in a world of trouble.
After you checkout the Extractol website, I would like to discuss my Extractol technology (removal of paraffin and production enhancement) with you if you can find the time.
I also have a new type motor that makes electrical power by using the gas they are now flaring, and then heating the excess and pushing it back down the hole “heated” to further enhance the production from that field.

We still need fossil fuel since wind power can’t be stored. it is used as it is produced. Can maybe supply 2% or 3% at most. The time to drill passed many years ago, so lets pressure the jerks in Congress to at least get started. Also nuclear power needs to be resurfaced. Our country is in danger because of a congressional lust for power and the people and the country be damned.

And the reason you are not running for president? I would love to see the great America, once the wealthiest country in the world, be self sufficient and not have to buy from countries that threaten our economy, train terrorists and want nothing but to see America vanquished. It’s past time to do something about it. America has waited too long to take action to prevent us from getting into the situation we are now in. I say go for it.

In WV there is a plan to used wind power in the higher elevation where the winds are strong enough to generate power and guess what, the Environmentalist has blocked the effort. A bat might fly into the generator and kill himself.

  • bob rhodes

I had explained a plan much like this to my wife five years ago; except the use of clean coal generation to replace the natural gas. Why does it take a billionair to think of something so simple. There has been a plan on the board for several years in WV to bring together all the technogy of clean coal into one generating plant but has been held up by congress. Even the by-products would be used to make building block. Wind might be a short term fix, but in the long run it’s going to take using what we have with better technogy.

  • Gordon Oosterhouse

    Storing surplus wind/solar KW idea!

The idea has been reviewed by Dr. Imad Mahawili, Michigan Alternative & renewable Energy Center, Muskegon, MI and Congressman Pete Hoekstra.

Both indicate that it may have merit.

If your efforts are open to even more ideas, like how to store up KW for the cloudy, windless days, feel free to contact me.

  • G . Nazarowff

WHY USE propeller type Generators. By using blower style Generators you could stack Two or Three on top of one another and utilize the space more efficiently.

  • Wind does not blow 24/7, and we are unable to store the power when the wind is blowing! To prevent the “Brown Outs” that will occure, we will have to have power plants, oil and/or caol fired, on standby. These plants can not be powered up with the flick of a switch, so they must remain fired up and running as backup 24/7.

    What we need is to

DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, SAVE MONEY & JOBS !!!

    T. BOONE HAS A GREAT IDEA FOR AN NEW WAY TO SUPPLEMENT THE OIL CRUNCH. WE JUST NEED A NATURAL LEADER LIKE T. BOONE TO MAKE THE WORK. IT WILL TAKE AN EFFORT FROM EVERYONE TO MAKE SUCH A DRASTIC CHANGE AND THAT INCLUDES OUR COUNTRY’S LEADER’S. WE NEED TO START WITH DROPPING THE SPEED LIMIT BACK DOWN TO 55MPH AGAIN BECAUSE IT IS A PROVEN FACT IT CONSERVES FUEL. IF ONLY 25% OF THE AUTO OWNERS WOULD CUT BACK 5 GALLONS A WEEK IT WOULD BRING STOCKPILES OF OIL TO SUCH A LEVEL THAT WOULD BRING DOWN PRICES FOR A TIME TO RESEARCH NEW FUELS…….

  • Mr. Pickins I agree with you 100percent. I hope the people of the USa open their eyes before we are baught out . Congress sets up there with private jets and mansions looking down on working people as if we are slaves and dont care if we are struggling to survive. Its time to get rid of 99%of them. Its time to take back our country. wake up people before we are taken over because congress thinks they own ua. Whsat has happened to equel rights for all. party has become more important to politicians than our nation.

  • Drill here drill now

  • Alonzo R. Peeke

    T. Boone Pickens is a very stand up guy! This all should have taken place a long time ago. All of the ideas I have read about her are a step in the right direction. Clearly, the government is the biggest problem. Fairtax will cure the majority of the problems that we have in this country. Not flat tax, Fairtax.com. The book The Truth, by Neal Boortz explains it all. If you don’t read about it you will be doing exactly what our goverment has done. It is HR 25 since 1995. If Fairtax were aproved and past it would allow all of these ideas and more to happen and business to grow untaxed and we would have jobs all over the place, in not only this industry but many others.
If you know what I am writting about, and disagree, I would love to hear all about your reasons for it not working.

  • HEY BOONE I worked in research with Phillips Petroleum until 1991. During that time I worked on Pillatrd Clay. This was smectite-type clay (Bentonite)that was soaked in Reheis Reagent, which I think was aluminum chloride diluted in water. The filtrate was dried, templated and calcined. I would fill a cylinder with 200 psig with methane and weigh it. I then filled the cylinder with pillared clay and repete the methane charge. I could put 48% more methane in at the same pressure than in an empty bomb. I never got to go above 200# to see if the storage got better asd I made the bomb on my lathe from ally and didn’t trust it. My contribution to the patent was the addition of a non-ionic surfactant to wet the clay better. Obviously the patent expired long ago. If you are interested and can’t locate the patent., holler and I will dig it up and shoot you the number. My laptop swallowed a bug and I am at the library at present
Cheers Keith (those 168 ft.wind blades are beautiful) Williams

  • Sounds like a bunch of compclacated “BS” to me. Why not just start to drill for oil in our off-shore areas and wherever we have a bountiful supply and stop depending on foreign companies that hate us? People like you just don’t get it. People that think like you will be the downfall of our country. I pray that you and all your ilk will come to your senses and wise up before it is too late.
What are we supposed to do, put a windmill on top of our vecichles? That would be so impractable and redicuclace

If companies would allow their employees to work 4 day work weeks/ work from home as much as possible.. that would save fuel/ save elec. in bldgs… Everyone needs to share the responsibility to make a plan work.

    T. Boone – Harness the wind for us !!!

  • Alton King

Having the wind turbines is a great idea. There is a company ( eone) that is the largest wind turbine power supplier in europe and now in south texas, NY,and PA. They are also heading for the northern mid states. Boones idea is not original. He has however bought a great deal of transmission rights over the past few months. This is making it important for people to support his plan. I am wondering – according to the his ad on the tv. This is going to make us less dependent on the oil imports.?? The US uses gas and coal for 90% of the electric generation. This reminds me of when he (Mr Pickins ) was wanting to sell the water in north Texas to the East coast.I ask at this time does he have land rights to put poles in the ground for the power lines to connect to the grid. I am very sure he does not. So, he will have the wind farms but no way to get it to the masses. Most coal plants can burn trash
but no one with the GREEN seems to be pushing it. It could empty landfills and save chances of it gitting in ground water. I do know what I am talking about. 30 yrs in the field

I’m not a tree hugger so I don’t feel compelled to have to buy some phony carbon-offset and I don’t lie awake at night worrying about my carbon footprint. 10,000 years ago where I live was under a mile of ice. 80 million years ago it was at the bottom of an inland sea. This all happened without any impact over some hokey footprint. Having said that, it’s time to kick ass in Washington. I am a recent convert to wind especially when I see 300 MW wind farms going up, but I’m not afraid of drilling for our oil, developing oil shale and I don’t buy into the Enviro’s paranoia about coal. Let’s come at this issue with all guns blazing. Fossil fuels do need replaced with cleaner technologies, but we’re not there yet. All arguments about increasing oil supplies and production won’t make a difference in price or It will take years to bring these wells into productions are bogus. Supply is supply. It is a world market and the barrel of oil being sold doesn’t know who produced it, where it goes to or who buys it. OK roll your eyes. Start growing wheat. Kansas wheat looks no different to a world market than Canadian wheat. If there is a lot out there, you can’t get squat for it. There is no J.R. Ewing sitting in Kansas City who fixes the wheat market every year. Nor does he exist in some building in Dallas or Houston sending Dr Evil and George Bush coded messages about what to tell gas station owners to charge on any given day.

  • God made a future for us and He’s not into polotics…T Boone Pickins has a plan to give us a better future and he’s not into politics…How much closer to Heaven can we get….Lets all listen too and stand behind Mr. Pickins and see how much better off we will be than we are now…What is the US Reserve saving the oil for, a rainy day, well look up, it’s pouring down….God Bless America and God Bless Mr. Pickins…..

Hat’s off to you Boone Pickin’s! We the people, by the people, for the people. Write your Congressman and voice your opinion for this incredible yet simple plan for America! Remember when it was made in the USA. My dad wouldn’t let us buy clothes, that didn’t have the Union USA label. When your born that way it’s hard to understand the America as we see and live in it today. In November people have to get out there and vote. I’m not telling people how to vote, but they had better listen to Obama and his vision for America.

I was wondering why wind power and not the tidel power instead. The wind is unpredictable, but the tide is constant. Also there are none of those big towers to look at. I also think that it would work in small steams as well.

Please let me know what you think.
    Thank You,

I have an idea for a free and renewable fuel source, but do not know how to pitch it.

As I drive by the city sewage plant, I see a large pipe with a constant blue flame. Seems to me that instead of burning this in such a waste, it could be re-claimed and used to provide energy for powering the plant or perhaps the city. I see the same thing at landfills. Also, if we could reclaim this gas, re-claim kits could be marketed that would attach to home septic or sewage clean-out pipes. I could see it having a valve that would open when the gas reaches a certain level and by attaching a gas line, let it travel to a tank for storage and residential use. I also can’t imagine why autos could not be converted to run on methane. Free and renewable.. I would appreciate anyone’s comments on this idea.
    thanks
    Jack

  • Jerry,

that could be a plausible idea – that’s one type of power source I don’t know much about (tidal).

    Jack,

Your idea might fly too – again I don’t know the science to comment intelligently on that one…

The Picken’s Plan while on the surface looks all well and good. It is not!!
T.Boone Pickens is nothing more than a greedy scumbag!
His plan is only so he can sell water to Dallas, Austin Texas. So what he does is have people invest in his So called Pickens Plan so he can get Government subsidies so he can take people land by eminant domain so he can put up a windmill and while he is at it run a water pipleine. Oh BTW he is also the owner of the largest wind farm in the country, thats like exxon telling you that you need to buy SUV’s and use more Gas. don’t beleive me Look here.

You’re certainly right that he is involved in the industries he supports – good or bad, he is at least congruent.

Water is tremendously undervalued by us humans, esp in the USA. We do not value it as we should…My eventual goal is to live somewhere with my own well since i don’t trust that water will be cheap or easy to get…

Picken’s Plan is a sham, here is an oilman who’s running out of oil and wants to sell his next product to America that’s all this creep wants. Thirty years ago we should have gone into more alternative energy! Now what does America do? Well they elect a Dumbacrat who historically has kept this country in the dark with their save the planet bullshit. T Boone Picken’s and Al Gore should both be arrested tried and shot! American coal, oil, natural gas, we have plenty and should be drilling here and drilling now!!! On top of this our cars should be running on hydrogen, with mix of electric, natural gas and others that already work. Don’t buy into Picken’s crap demand from your leaders more. BTW why is any of our leaders in these offices for more than two terms, congressman with thirty years, senators with thirty years government welfare is all that is re-elect no incumbent and clean all state capitols and Washington DC of the people who spend their whole lives there destroying America.
